COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 4, 1997) -- University of Tennessee junior standout Chamique Holdsclaw (Astoria, N.Y.) and Eastern Michigan University senior star Earl Boykins (Cleveland, Ohio) today were named USA Basketball's 1997 Female and Male Athletes of the Year, respectively. Presented annually since 1980, the USA Basketball Athlete of the Year awards are given to the top female and male players for USA Basketball during the year's competitions.
