susan lowe - 02:18pm Mar 5, 1999 ET (#2 of 5) Yes. Until someone else comes along who can dominate the game and demonstrate the moves that Chamique does so effortlessly with grace and grit - she will remain my pick for the BEST college player - ever. But I bet there are little girls (and probably even some little boys)out there who are practicing their jump shots and dribbling and driving to the lane wearing their #23 Tennessee jerseys in the hopes of being the next "Chamique". She has made a tremendous impact in college basketball not only with her play on the court but with her humble attitude - I know I will miss her next year.

this year? YES best ever? MAYBE...someday...
Chamique has excelled on and off the court. On the court, she's
dependable and elegant. Off the court, she's good-natured and
humble--a truly great player and human being. She's definately helped
women's hoops move to a whole new level of acceptance which directly
translates into increased opportunities for our daughters.
I TOTALLY agree she's among the very best women ever to play
basketball. She herself would be the first to admit to being honored to be
included with Cheryl Miller, Nancy Lieberman, Anne Donovan, Carol
Blazekowski whose talents and achievements have also been great.
In my mind, it's still too early in Chamique's career to grant her as the
"best ever." She certainly seems talented enough to earn the title by the
end of her career. However, at this point, my vote would have to go to
Cheryl Miller. Cheryl was an awesome, dominating player--and the first
to really enjoy the attention of the media as well.
Cheryl laid her heart out for each and every game. Those of you
impressed with the emotional game of Semeka Randall and Mery
Andrade should watch some tapes of Cheryl's play for National
Champion Univ. of So. California (USC). If you've watched her
coaching the Phoenix Mercury, you can guess what she was like as a
player. Imagine the dominance of Chamique with the fire of Semeka and
you'll start to understand. That girl could do it ALL!
