Holdsclaw has stress fractures in foot

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Washington Mystics and U.S. national team forward Chamique Holdsclaw has two stress fractures in her right foot, but the Mystics said Friday she is not expected to miss the team's May 31 season opener.

Holdsclaw suffered the injury March 30 in an exhibition game between the United States and a Hungarian club team. She has been fitted with a walking cast.

Holdsclaw was the WNBA's rookie of the year last season, averaging 16.9 points and 6.9 rebounds.

The Mystics also announced the hiring of Tyrone Beaman as an assistant coach. Beaman has coached 11 years in the collegiate level at Cornell, North Carolina-Greensboro, Virgiania Commonwealth, Virginia Tech and Alabama.
